How an IT Company Builds a Women-Friendly Workplace

On March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day—a day rooted in early 20th-century movements advocating for women’s rights. While initially focused on securing voting rights and improving working conditions, it has since evolved into a time for reflection on the challenges women still face daily, particularly in the labour market. Across industries, organisations continue to address issues such as wage inequality, occupational segregation, and workplace discrimination. In professional settings, this day also sparks crucial discussions about female representation, especially in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Despite the IT industry’s rapid growth, gender imbalance remains a persistent issue. The perception of IT as a “man’s world” is deeply ingrained in stereotypes and biases. According to the 2024 No Fluff Jobs report1, women make up just 19% of the workforce in this sector—closely mirroring gender disparities in higher education, where only one in five students in technical fields is female. These gaps often stem from long-standing societal norms and a lack of early educational support. Without proactive employer initiatives, the IT sector may appear inaccessible to many women. At Infinity Group, we actively challenge these barriers by fostering a culture of equality, transparency, and professional support for all employees.

Equality and transparency—our foundation

For us, equality is not a principle but a daily practice. Our team includes 52 women, not only in administrative roles but also in key technical, managerial, and senior positions. Female leaders—including our Head Accountant, HR Manager, Art Director, Web Content Leader, and Mobile Team Leader—play an essential role in driving our company’s growth.

In recruitment and promotion processes, we evaluate candidates solely on their competencies, experience, and potential. Our salary structures are never influenced by gender—every employee is compensated based on their skills and dedication. We prioritise transparent career paths, ensuring equal opportunities for professional development, training, and advancement.

Our commitment to equality extends beyond internal policies. We actively support women in tech through industry events, speaking engagements, and university mentoring programs. A great example is last year’s workshop at Bialystok University of Technology, led by our Front-end Developers, Ada and Ela. Their expertise exemplifies our belief that success in IT is defined by knowledge and skills, not gender.

Flexibility and work-life balance

A modern work environment demands flexibility. That is why we offer remote and hybrid work options, allowing employees to effectively manage their time while maintaining work-life balance.

Another key aspect of our flexible culture is the ability to step away during the day for urgent matters—whether it is a doctor’s appointment or caring for a sick child—without taking formal leave. This approach reduces stress and empowers employees to navigate both professional and personal responsibilities with confidence. A well-structured system of flexible hours, remote work, and short breaks fosters a supportive workplace while recognising the diverse roles men and women juggle in their daily lives.

Supporting career growth and parenthood

Supporting women through maternity leave is a fundamental part of our policy. At Infinity Group, pregnancy or parental leave never hinders career progression. We ensure that female employees receive full support and can return to work under the same conditions as before. Here, women do not have to choose between family and career—they can succeed in both.

At the same time, true workplace equality means supporting fathers who want to take an active role in family life. We encourage men to utilise paternity and parental leave and take advantage of flexible arrangements. Shared parenting responsibilities contribute to a more inclusive and balanced workplace for everyone.

Summary

Creating a workplace that truly supports women goes beyond policies—it requires an organisational culture that values work-life balance and professional growth. At Infinity Group, we put this into action through equal pay, transparent career progression, flexible working conditions, and continuous support at every stage of professional development. By breaking down stereotypes and fostering inclusivity, we reinforce the idea that IT is a career path open to everyone. We are committed to proving that this industry has space for both men and women alike—and we will continue working to make that a reality.
